Understanding Joint Commission Life Safety Requirements

This course provides an understanding of The Joint Commission and what specific areas fall within their jurisdiction. An overview of the requirements for fire and life safety is presented based on NFPA 101 ‘Life Safety Code’. This includes life safety design and building construction, means of egress including design of space, travel distance, egress illumination, and signage. Specific emphasis will be given to protection provided by door features, stairs, and other vertical openings as well as corridors, smoke barriers, fire alarm notification, and suppression of fires such as sprinkler systems and interior finishes.
