Understanding Dedicated Function Fire Alarm Systems

This course will examine the use of Dedicated Function fire alarm systems as found in NFPA 72 ‘National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code’. A dedicated function fire alarm system is used specifically to perform emergency control functions in a protected premise where a building fire alarm system is not required. The presenter will review the code sections that allow these limited systems and discuss when they can be utilized. Participants will also learn about common challenges and misunderstandings when using these systems.

•Describe the basis for these requirements in the International Building Code
•Explain basic installation requirements for dedicated function fire alarm systems and when they must be monitored
