Security Door Control Systems Fundamentals

With the increased risk of criminal and terrorist activities, emergency lock down systems help protect staff and visitors from aggressors, but consideration for life safety egress needs is also important. This course covers security door control systems and how to design for the balance of protecting against active assailants while still meeting code requirements for emergency egress. Participants will learn how lockdown door control systems can help to ensure that threats and aggressors are deterred from entering the space. Use of these systems is common in K-12 and higher education school buildings as well as healthcare facilities. Included in this discussion will be perimeter security, internal door controls, hardwired door hardware and wireless access control door locks.

Learning Objectives:
•Describe types of lockdowns and when to use them
•Understand how security can implement emergency lockdown controls and allow emergency egress
•Learn the differences in designing controls for perimeter and interior doors
•Explain hardwired door locks, wireless locks and equipment to avoid
