Fire Pumps – Design, Installation and Maintenance Considerations

Course Description: This course focuses on fire pumps and the important considerations for the design, installation and maintenance of this equipment as part of a fire protection system. Based on NFPA 20, participants will learn the different pumps, drivers, and controller configurations as well as their impact on the design and construction process. The presenter will review the factors used to determine the need for a fire pump as well as coordination requirements with the A/E team and other trades. Using NFPA 25, the basic requirements for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire pumps will be discussed. Finally, this course will provide a discussion on the design and construction phase factors that have a significant impact on the overall lifecycle cost of installing and maintaining a fire pump.

Learning Objectives:
• Understand the roles and responsibilities of each relevant stakeholder including the building owner, AHJ, A/E team and fire protection contractor as well as other trades
• Describe the various types of fire pumps, drivers, and controllers
• Discuss design, coordination and installation decisions that have an impact on lifecycle costs
