Business Continuity Considerations in Fire Alarm System Design

Often fire alarm systems are designed simply to be code compliant, but for some facilities there is need for a higher standard to ensure performance under more adverse conditions. This course will review the steps to be taken prior to, and during system design, to ensure that the facility will be able to remain operational after a significant event, in support of an overall business continuity plan. The presenter will discuss related risk analysis and continuity guidance from NFPA 72, 1600 and 3000 to provide an understanding of what risks may be involved as well as what mitigating design elements can be used.

Learning Objectives:
•Learn about the scope of NFPA 1600 for business continuity
•Understand the risk assessment elements of NFPA 3000
•Describe design elements that can be used to mitigate business continuity risks
