Antifreeze Solutions in Fire Sprinkler Systems

This course will discuss the guidance and allowances for the use of antifreeze solutions in water-based fire protection systems. Both new and existing systems will be covered along with an understanding of the impetus for current restrictions. A review of the existing legacy solutions that are still permitted for continued use along with associated limits of concentration will be provided, including a review of the sunset date for the required removal of such legacy solutions. The presenter will also discuss the available Listed antifreeze product that is currently on the market focusing on its restrictions of use and necessary adjustments to design parameters.

Learning Objectives:
•Explain the impetus for antifreeze restrictions in water-based fire protection systems
•Describe the restrictions on the use of propylene glycol and glycerin in existing systems, including the sunset date for removal
•Learn the available Listed antifreeze products currently available and understand their limits of use
