NFPA 20 Fire Pump Selection and Performance Training Webinars

Two-part webinar presentation will educate fire sprinkler designers and fire officials on the fire pump installation requirements for fire sprinkler systems based on NFPA 20.

A new two-part webinar series has been prepared by Fire Smarts, LLC to educate fire sprinkler designers and fire officials worldwide on fire pump installation requirements, selecting the appropriate fire pump and calculating pump performance based on ‘NFPA 20 Standard for the Installation of Stationary Fire Pumps’. This includes learning key definitions and terminology as well as the types of acceptable fire pumps available. Sizing of pump assembly components will also be covered and how flow and pressure are affected. The webinar is part of the online training resources offered by Fire Smarts.

The “Fire Pump Basics and NFPA 20 Requirements (Part 1)” and “Fire Pump Selection and Performance (Part 2)” webinars will be presented by fire protection industry expert, Ralph Bless, P.E., SET, CFPS. During this two-part 90-minute each training, Mr. Bless will examine fire pump types, assembly components and acceptable fire pump arrangements. Understand centrifugal fire pump performance guideline and requirements will also be covered along with how to construct a fire pump curve and interpret pump performance.

The webinar qualifies for one contact hour of continuing education training as approved by the International Code Council (ICC) and recognized by NICET for professional development. Webinar instructor, Ralph Bless has more than 35 years’ experience in fire protection including a broad range of water based and special hazard system design, code consulting and fire protection engineering services. He has provided services to government, hospitality, warehouse/distribution center, retail, convenience, multi-unit development, multifamily housing, industrial, restaurant, and medical accounts. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in six states, a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, Level IV NICET senior fire sprinkler layout technician and holds three additional NICET certifications, as well as eight state licenses. Ralph chairs the NFPA technical committee for Record Storage, NFPA 232, and serves on the NFPA technical committees for Water Spray Systems, NFPA 15, as well as the NFPA 13 Installation Technical Committee and Correlating Committee.
