Foam Restrictions and Alternatives – AFFF to SFFF

Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) restrictions have continued across the United States and in many foreign countries, resulting in a need to transition to alternative solutions. With the development of Synthetic Fluorine Free Foam (SFFF) products for the commercial market, new code allowances for alternate protection schemes and alternate guidelines for replacement in the military sector, it can be difficult to determine what the best solution is for the replacement of AFFF. This course will cover navigating the codes and restrictions, evaluating the hazard, and performing the system design process for replacement. This includes a discussion on evaluating the need for AFFF replacement and considerations for providing the best fire protection solution for the hazard.

Learning Objectives:
• Learn about AFFF restrictions and alternatives
• Understand evaluating the existing AFFF design and field conditions
• Explain the Code and Standards options related to design and replacement of AFFF
• Describe design considerations of the replacement solution
