Fire Sprinkler System Piping Support

This course reviews the essential requirements for the design and installation of hangers as required by NFPA 13 ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems’. The rules for the custom design of hangers and the support of non-system components is covered. This includes hanger components which are specifically required to be listed for fire protection use. The presenter will discuss the requirements for the installation of hangers and fasteners when used with concrete, steel, and wood construction. This includes a thorough review of using trapeze hangers and their benefits when designing building structures using the lightest loads possible. This presentation will also review piping Installation requirements including spacing rules, clearance requirements, and permitted unsupported lengths. Finally, participants will learn about the design requirements for supporting risers and standpipes.

Learning Objectives:
•Apply the requirements for the design of hangers
•Know the requirements that must be met for hanger components
•Describe the requirements for attaching hangers to the building structure
•Understand how to calculate and design trapeze hangers
•Learn the requirements for locating hangers including spacing limitations, clearance from sprinklers, and supporting risers and standpipes
•Explain the design requirements for pipe stands
