Fire Protection Requirements for Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) – 4hr Course

This course explores the current state of fire protection for Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS). A review of several notable fires will be presented to illustrate the importance of such protection. Participants will learn about the provisions in NFPA 13 ‘Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems’ with emphasis on the limited coverage for ASRS operations within the document. The presenter will provide an in-depth review of the provisions of FMDS 8-34 to establish the type of ASRS structure that is being protected and how the type impacts fire protection criteria. This includes mini-load, shuttle-loading, vertically enclosed and top-loading as well as a discussion on the various container types.
