This course reviews the allowances found in NFPA 13 permitting the use of equivalent requirements and new technology. The methods for establishing equivalency are reviewed with a focus on full-scale fire testing including a review of the requirements from Chapter 21 of NFPA 13 regarding Alternate Sprinkler System Designs. The criteria for determining the goals and objectives of fire testing are reviewed including testing for hazard or commodity classification, small scale tests, and full-scale fire tests. Case studies of success fire test programs are examined including videos of actual full-scale fire tests along with interpreting the results.
